Indonesia, Japan to Build MRT Soon

The Indonesian government collaborates with Japan in constructing Metropolitan Priority Area (MPA) of which projects include Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).
“The first development is on the MRT while the next projects will be on harbors and airports,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa, in Nusa Dua, Bali, today, Dec 10. Hatta believes the projects will be completed in 2020.
Mass Rapid Transit is seen as a solution to the serious traffic congestion in the Indonesian capital.
PT MRT Jakarta, the most responsible agency for the MRT development, has designed trains that may reach a top speed of 110 kilometers per hour. “The commercial use is limited to 30 kilometers per hour of speed,” MRT Jakarta President Director Tribudi Rahardjo told VIVAnews.
Tribudi said trains that are set to low speed will enable them to cover Lebak Bulus – Dukuh Atas route of around 20 kilometers in 28 minutes. The vehicles will be touching down on the available stations in every five minutes.
In the deal, Japan has accepted to grant soft loans to Indonesia.
“The development is centered in Jakarta and the surrounding areas, which have long been considered the largest industrial zone,” said Hatta.
It is expected that the development will become a model to improve other areas.
